About Me

Hi, I’m Lisa! I’m a lawyer, compliance professional, and operator working in the crypto space since 2018. I’ve guided both early and late stage startup companies navigate the complex legal, regulatory, and business challenges facing innovators building and developing blockchain-based solutions and decentralized technologies. I am passionate about contributing to both technological and regulatory innovation, providing proactive solutions in uncertain environments that balance risk and business goals while also benefiting the broader digital asset ecosystem. The array of laws and regulations that govern our financial markets industry are complex and ever-evolving, addressing new issues and concerns relevant to present day marketplaces and  accommodating (or not so aptly accommodating) modern technologies– this complexity and constant evolution are what continue to draw me to the space and drive my passion for the industry.

Most recently, I served as Associate General Counsel at BitGo where I partnered closely with executive leadership across its global entities, drafting and negotiating a range of commercial agreements and advising on innovative products and business lines involving digital assets such as BitGo’s NFT wallet solution, Off-Exchange Settlement Network, lightning network implementation, web3 wallet app, prime brokerage, staking and delegation services, and wrapped bitcoin (WBTC). Additionally, I led the law enforcement inquiries response team and managed corporate governance functions while assisting with the obligations and requirements of the regulators of BitGo’s trust companies in the U.S. and abroad.

Prior to BitGo, I led legal, compliance, and operations functions at LGO Group, a French-American startup that provided an institutional spot and OTC trading platform for digital assets (e.g. BTC, ETH, and stablecoins). I joined LGO shortly after its ICO in February 2018 but prior to launch of the exchange and spent 2 years building out the platform and compliance program from the ground up. LGO obtained one of the first virtual asset service provider (VASP) registrations approved by the French financial markets authority, the AMF, and was subsequently acquired by Voyager Digital in December 2020 in a transaction that included a merger of the companies’ respective tokens, LGO and VGX via one of the largest and most complex transactions of its kind. My transition to BitGo felt like the natural progression of my career given the close partnership between BitGo and LGO and familiarity working with the BitGo products stack on the client-side at LGO.

Before moving in-house, I gained experience as a law clerk focused on corporate financial law, regulatory compliance, and commercial and securities litigation. I received my J.D. from New York Law School and graduated cum laude in 2018 where I was a Harlan Scholar and Associate of the Center for Business & Financial Law. As an editor of the law review, my writings and research focused on the evolving legal and regulatory treatment of blockchain-based assets and related products and services under federal securities and derivatives laws. Prior to law school, I received my B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where I developed a passion for writing and endless learning.

I’m excited to continue working at the forefront of innovation, collaborating with projects and founders to advance global adoption of crypto, web3, and decentralized technologies, as well as the development of more equitable and accessible financial markets and venues of exchange. If you share my passion for all things legal, compliance, and crypto/decentralization, feel free to reach out here. I look forward to connecting!
